Takoradi Educational Resource Centre
- Brief description
- A Community based Educational Resource Centre containing a Children's Library ICT classroom and Activities program.
- Vision, Objectives and Goals
- The project wants to contribute to improving the level of education of public primary schools and junior secondary school children. By providing them with facilities they normally do not have access to. We hope to stimulate them to obtain sufficient skills for them to continue their education. Thus reducing the drop out rates. By continuing their education they create better chances for themselves on the labour market. Hence a better life for themselves and their family.Already students have gained skills that allowed them to participate in a web design workshops and have won a contest (2nd place) within the Global Teenager Project of the International Institute of Communication and Development. These students are very much aware of the skills they have acquired. These skills will allow them to have access to all information they need to learn and make educated choices in life.
- How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
- ICT has broadend the world for many of the children and adults we service. It has provided them with extra information/research for their studies. It has stimulated them to see opportunities for a different future, e.g. One of our students makes power point stills that are aired by local TV as advertisments for traders in the community. It has provided tools for efficiency and effectiveness in work for e.g. teachers we work with.
- Transferability
- The project is Transferable and can be duplicated. The organisation has plans to duplicate the concept in other location in Ghana and other african countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia. It can be set up in any developing countries that has a relatively sound basic educational system internet connectivity options/solutions/access Government backing and backing of local representatives of the Donor Community
