All Blind Orchestra - 'Heart 2 Heart' by the Visually Challenged

  • Brief description
  • "HEART 2 HEART", the Orchestra by the Visually Challenged has been thus formed to enable the talented to use their ability, namely "Music".
  • Vision, Objectives and Goals
  • The EYE APPEAL does matter, which is what drives your INSTINCT. Most of the time, your THOUGHTS, IDEAS and DECISIONS are based on the VISUAL IMPACT. Sometimes you SEE what catches your NATURAL attention and sometimes you LOOK OUT to SEE what you WISH to SEE. Every time you SEE something, you STORE the Image and it is this Image which is MEMORISED, that gets PROCESSED using your REASONING POWER as a “THOUGHT”. Thus you form an “IDEA” and “DECIDE” every minute as to what to do next. THE EYE PLAYS AN INTEGRAL ROLE IN EVERY ‘THOUGHT’, ‘DECISION’ AND ‘ACTION’. Even in the very expression “LOOKING FORWARD TO”, there is the word ‘LOOK’.

If all this is true, was GOD really unkind to the Visually Challenged??? NO!!. He has given them EYES too. WE are their EYES. IF WE HOLD THEIR HAND, TWO EYES ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH FOR TWO PEOPLE TO CROSS THE ROAD OR TO READ A NEWSPAPER. Can we not be their eyes at least when it does not cost us much. Can we not ENABLE them to overcome their DISABILITY using their ABILITIES so that they can stand on their own, PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY and ECONONICALLY???????

This is exactly what “SOCIETY for REHABILITATION of the VISUALLY CHALLENGED” or “SRVC” is trying to achieve.

    EMPOWER… ENABLE… ENHANCE…

    SHOW THEM THE WAY.

LEAD THEM FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT……

The ‘Heart 2 Heart Orchestra’ comprises of twelve members who are visually challenged with eight of them being totally blind who come from different parts of the Kerala state, South India. Our shows are an ‘eye-opener’ for the public as it helps showcase some of the abilities of the visually challenged and also should help create awareness.

  • How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
  • 1.With the help of Information Technology we've been able to canvass and carry the message forward to the masses - thus providing a platform for these talented musicians to exhibit their talents. 2.Also in the initial stages - the use of the mass public medium 'radio' has helped spread the word regarding the auditions that were conducted around the state thus attracting around 80 talented visually challenged musicians out of which the 14 piece orchestra was chosen. 3.The band also uses braille friendly musical instruments/notes 4. Website and other electronic medium also encourage the promotion of the band
  • Transferability
  • Any individual or group with ideas or the ability to put together a similar orchestra effort by first identifying talents and then building this as a successful model by working to achieve its full potential can replicate this model. We would encourage NGO's, organisations to come forward with ideas and help spread the messge further and consequentially empower the people
  • Project summary
  • We look forward to the support of all well wishers. Help us to lead the Visually Challenged from darkness to light not by offering them any consideration on sympathetic grounds, but by recognizing their talents and capabilities. We are also looking forward to sponsorships for foreign language training to the Visually Challenged who could be employed in the tourism industry at Help Desks and in Back Offices. IT training is one of the areas where we work with the visually challenged and I employ a full time C/VB programmer in my office (www.sjmfx.com) who works with screen access readers liek Jaws, multilingual browser etc to access the computer and to browse online

Let’s not see them as ‘visually challenged musicians’, but ‘ great musicians’ who happen to be ‘visually challenged’

Let’s recognize the Visually Challenged for their ‘abilities’

Let them not be identified by their ‘disability’

Let’s not see them as ‘disabled’, but ‘differently able’

Let’s not sympathise, for, we didn’t ‘earn’ eyesight. It was ‘granted’

It’s not ‘consideration’ they need, but ‘encouragement’

‘Disability’ is God given and ‘Handicap’ is man made

‘VISION without EYESIGHT’ is more powerful than ‘EYESIGHT without VISION’

We ‘believe’ when we ‘see’…and they ‘see’ when they ‘believe’

    Understand…Accept…Acknowledge…

    Show them the way…

Lead them from Darkness to Light…………
