AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT EAST AFRICA AGROVET
- Brief description
- ADEA Agrovet is a social entreprise focusing on promotion of organic farming through provision of agricultural inputs products and services to farmers in Kenya. We ensure that everyone in our network gains economically from organic farming.
- Vision, Objectives and Goals
Our Vision is to achieve a fully sustainable agricultural community in Kenya.
Our mission is to provide high quality, affordable and sustainable agricultural and agribusiness products and services to farming communities in Kenya.
Our objectives are categorized into provision of organic farming products and services, training of farmers on organic farming practices and development of entrepreneurs in Kenya.
- How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
ADEA Agrovet is expecting to have a network of 10,000 farmers in Kenya served by 100 microentrepreneurs in the communities in the next two years. These microentrepreneurs will operate as ADEA Retails.
To be able to manage this network and effectively communicate to them, we will connect the ADEA Agrovet with 100 ADEA Retails and the 10,000 farmers together. We will develop both web and short messaging systems (SMS) portals to be able to service the network effectively. Most of the farmers have cellphones and with the ICT system in place, we will be able to relay messages to them in real time.
In future, we would like to connect the urbanites and diaspora kenyans, who mostly are the youths to their parents back in the rural areas and engage them in programs where they can give back to the parents by buying them agricultural inputs. Website will do this quite well since most of them could access internet and order the products for their parents online.
- Transferability
ADEA's expansion strategy is through franchising. After getting 100 ADEA Retails and 10,000 farmers behind it, ADEA will fully automate its systems to make it more effective and efficient. The end result is an efficient, sustainable business model (Prototype) ready for replication.
We will replicate the ADEA Model through franchises to Young Social Enterpreneurs in the community. In the following three years, we will replicate the model to 30 entrepreneurs in 30 districts in Kenya.
- Project summary
- ADEA Agrovet is operating one shop in kakamega. Currently, we are in the process on developing a website and a point of sale program. Later after the systems and structures of the business become effective and it achieves its sustainability, we will roll out an integrated MIS (Management Information System) system that will be able to connect the stakeholders together, relay information right from the suppliers to the farmer and also integrate our partners. This information system will ensure cohension and also increase customer loyalty through personal interaction.
