Network of European Alimentary Culture

  • Brief description
  • Network is based on the assumption that table manners, likes and dislikes through their formation reflect a vivid image of society. Food seen as an anthropological paradigm of society, can be analysed from a variety of viewpoints: art, literature, science, music, sociology a repertoire, which has as its objective to highlight the complexity of European food culture acknowledging the present reality and value that food can assume.

Sharing ideas about good food from a local, regional and international perspective, makes this a very imaginative and attractive initiative for children, parents and teachers. It allows participating groups to open their minds and explore the cultural aspects of all European countries involved.

  • Vision, Objectives and Goals
  • Equality between women and men - Integration of disabled people - Fight against racism and xenophobia - ICT in education - Language teaching and learning - Preparing the enlargement of the Union - Sustainable development - The future challenges to education and training systems - Lifelong learning

  • How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
  • One pedagogical objective has been to increase skills for ICT-based, multilateral/multilevel co-operation inside school and with external school institutions/actors relevant for the thematic area. NEAC intends to promote projects related to NEAC, concentrating on joint activities of different actors  at different levels, inspiring those actively involved to link up with their local/regional community and environment as well as with their European community and environment (via the partner schools). There has been a clear need to develop an IT-based, multilevel approach for co-operation within different teams at different levels in order to implement joint tasks progressively. This has been valid for teachers as well as pupils, regional decision makers and any other educational staff involved in NEAC. The approach is a learning-by-doing approach promoting the immediate implementation of an autonomous, but supported (IT-experts), learning.

Another pedagogical objective of NEAC has been to increase IT-based presentation / (web-)publishing skills for effective co-operation. Special attention has been given to tasks not only asking pupils (and teachers as well other educational staff) to present something using IT effectively, but also to collect feedback for the general development on what was presented, as a sort of controlling system, and to present the outcomes again to the partners involved in the joint activity.

  • Transferability
  • The project includes as activity the publication of the results which will be posted on the project website as well, and we will invite other groups in other regions to replicate the initiative. For those interested we can send the necessary materials and we can provide them on line the technical assistance to start up the projects. If donors are interested in the initiative we can train a core group of project initiators and implementers in the other regions.
  • Project summary
  • NEAC Network seeks to increase mutual understanding between people of different cultures and ethnic groups and to improve the quality of everyday life for the inhabitants through the organization of concrete friendly cultural activities in their Countries. In order to draw inhabitants closer together and reinforce their sense of belonging to their Countries, the NEAC Network carry out various activities in each country involved in the network.  These activities serve as a catalyst for cooperation and mutual enrichment. in order to contribute at the European Citizens’ building.Project aims to promote dialogue among different culture and traditions. It stresses the reciprocal interactions and influences between, on the one hand, local traditions, and on the other, the need to promote understanding between them in order to challenge ignorance and prejudices and foster mutual respect. Learning the art of dialogue is both a personal and social process. Developing one’s skills and capacity for dialogue implies a willingness to be open while retaining one’s critical judgment. Dialogue concerns us all: from decision-makers and leaders to individuals within each community. Alongside relevant international events to raise awareness, Project strives to promote grass-root activities, particularly in sensitive geo-strategical areas that reach target-populations such as women, youth and marginalized populations.

    Outcomes

    1. Website. The NEAC website (www.neac.eat-online.net) is a link between the main NEAC website and the regional websites (which offer information in the respective mother tongue). The website offer a variety of tools for co-operation, eg conference room, mailing list, forum etc.  All the outputs of the network are available via the website. It offers a variety of tools for schools (like a multimedia database) to be used for their projects; thereby it make particular allowance for the needs of pupils.

    2. International events. Further outputs of the NEAC network are a large number of transnational events, organised by the NEAC partners. Particularly:

    a) Thematic Conferences will be a platform for professionals from all over Europe to meet with colleagues, to share experiences, theory and good practice, and to take part in the European dialogue on learning and professional competence. The spirit of collaboration will be fostered by interactive sessions and workshops in which learning from and with each other is central: it will possible to share projects, thoughts and ideas, thus building the bridges for learning. Parallel to the Conferences a contact workshop for schools as well as for teacher training institutions will be held. It will offer an opportunity to get to know interested partners from other countries and, hopefully, open up new perspectives for cooperation and future project work.

    b) Youth Meetings are short theme camps organized to provide an opportunity for young people to explore important intercultural issues and promote European Citizenship. Young people attend the Youth Meetings to learn and work with each other, to get to know each other, and together to seek answers to questions about the past, the present and the future. The motto of the YM comprises these aspects: “remembering – meeting – understanding – working for the future”. As well as different types of workshops, the YM involves talks with historical witnesses, guided tours of the places, excursions and lectures. In addition to thematic work, participants have time for personal conversations, trips out, free time activities and getting to know contemporary Europe.

    c) Conventions aim at providing the participants with a high profile debate mainly focused on the Network topic,  the opportunity for individuals to present their research and offers an excellent venue for extended informal discussion with meeting attendees. Moreover, they are organized to promote  the NEAC Network activities.

    3. NEAC newsletters. These newsletters are published twice a year/each project year. They contain a collection of contributions, layout, publication and dissemination. This information raises the visibility of NEAC and its activities and thereby promote synergies between all the actors and persons interested in NEAC.
