Letralia, Tierra de Letras

  • Brief description
  • Spanish American writers’ magazine on the Internet
  • Vision, Objectives and Goals
  • The Spanish American writers, mostly in Latin-American countries, do not have mechanisms available to help them, in one hand to be prepared in the literary occupation and on the other hand to diffuse their work. The economic crisis that affects our countries has had such a negative effect over the editorial market that works have been restricted to consecrated authors who assure sales. This circumstance has become into a difficult obstacle for writers who, even when they produce material of excellent quality, are not known by editorials. Besides, also as a consequence from crisis, the cost of books stops purchases by an immense segment of readers. Our first objective is already achieved: create a fine literary magazine and encourage the creation of similar publication in other Spanish American countries. Already consolidated as one of the most important literary diffusion platforms in the Spanish speaking world, at the present time Letralia develops its other goals: contribute to the formation of readers and writers and keep them informed about the present literary, supply editors of texts of high quality and become a reliable channel so, without depending on large editorials, contemporary Latin-American writers might be able to let their work be known and, the most important thing, interact with readers and learn from this relationship.
  • How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
  • The ICT are the efficientest, quickest and cheapest tool for the promotion of the Spanish American writers' literature, working like a bridge between writers, readers and editors.

  • Transferability
  • Letralia has been saved almost totally, since June 2000, on the Internet Web Archive (http://web.archive.org). Also, some copies in CD has been created for particular users and promotional objectives.
  • Project summary
  • Letralia is the first Venezuelan cultural magazine on the Internet and the first literary magazine distributed through e-mail in Spanish America. Besides, Letralia Editorial (http://www.letralia.com/ed_let) —one of the segments of the project— is the first electronic editorial created in Venezuela and one of the first ones in Latin-American. And our itinerary (http://www.letralia.com/itin) is the highest guide of remarked links inside of the intellectual environment of the Spanish speaking people. In 1996, when our first edition circulated, there were not literary publications distributed through e-mail. Most of Latin-American users had their Internet access limited to e-mail; web was still an expensive and slow tool for us. The combination of these two conditions led us to create Letralia. Nowadays, Letralia is a complete platform of formation, diffusion and information for readers, writers and editors of the Spanish speaking world. It’s published twice a month and, besides the magazine —which publishes Spanish American relevant cultural news, comments the best cultural initiatives on the Internet and diffuses the best of contemporary literature in Spanish—, Letralia includes an electronic editorial, a directory of remarked links, a literary translation site and a virtual classroom to form writers and one of the most extended communication network among Spanish speaking writers and editors.
