I Love SG

  • Brief description
  • In conjunction with National Day celebrations (9 Aug), MICA worked with a secondary school, Victoria School, to invite primary school students across Singapore to produce websites and videos on the things they love about Singapore, based on the theme “I©SG”. A separate competition was also run for members of public using the same theme.

The I ©SG project leverages on the Web 2.0 ICT platform which allows users to tag their memories and pictures onto a digital map of Singapore. The website link is http://www.earthsg.com/index.php?option=com_esg&act=mups&task=list&cid=43The content uploaded by Singaporeans can also be viewed on Google Earth.
  • Vision, Objectives and Goals
  • One of the outcomes of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) is to inculcate a sense of community, national identity and rootedness among Singaporeans.   To explore and experiment with the use of technology and the Internet to inculcate a sense of community and national identity and to allow Singaporeans to capture their culture and memories of Singapore online.

  • How does ICT contribute to the organisational objectives
  • The availability of multi-media content (pictures, audio and videos) and the connectivity of the Internet to reach many Singaporeans online provide the opportunity to leverage on technology (including digital maps on Google) to inculcate a sense of community and national identity and rootedness among Singaporeans online with the use of multi-media content.

  • Transferability
  • The project is highly transferable and could be managed with small resources as it leverages on commercially available maps like Google.

The winning entries are posted online on the earth@SG portal. Civil society: The public competition is open to all Singaporeans, and made available through the earth@SG web portal. It is based on user-generated content making this project something by Singaporeans for Singaporeans. Businesses: The platform used for the project, earth@sg, is provided by a private sector vendor. This is a 3P (Public Sector, People and Private Sector) collaboration. The private sector partner for the website will allow the online community to grow and create a sustainable model for the website as they will allow other businesses to advertise themselves on the earth@sg website.  Postings on the I ©SG website would also refer to some of the business establishments, thus creating business opportunities for this group of stakeholders.
